Dubai’s real estate Giant iPod tower.

Dubai has to be considered one of the most spectacular areas on earth. Some of the most incredible architecture on the face of the planet is located there. And now  Omniyat Properties is planning on building something else—a Giant iPod in the sky.

It’s called Pad, and it was actually designed to resemble an iPod. The exterior is disturbingly similar to a piece of circuit board, and the interior is reminiscent of the Jetsons on steroids.

It is one of the most creative urban developments in the city known for its extravagance, but you will have to judge for yourself. Certainly the amenities are over the top; the ground floor will be filled with shops restaurants, and it will include an iClub with an aerobics section, lap pool, and Media Jacuzzi.

The location for the new residential development is supreme, facing the waterfront of Dubai Creek on one side and facing the Burj Dubai on the other. It will only be 5 minutes from the Dubai Mall, the largest mall in the world.

The development makes perfect sense to the parent company of Omniyat Properties, Almasa Holdings. Almasa was originally an IT company started by Mehdi Amjad in 1996 and became a sensation in the region. By 1999 Almasa had been appointed regional distributor for Maxtor. Omniyat was started in 2005 to be the companies’ property development division. Its first residential project, the Square, was sold out three days after launch.

Of course technology-inspired living does not come cheap; the going price for a piece of the Pad is considerably higher than for other developments in the area.

When the condominiums in the Pad become available, they will almost certainly garner plenty of attention. And that alone should make the apartments worth taking a look at as investment properties.
